When people talk about survival, they mostly talk about knowledge and skill, and survival kit. They are very important, indeed. But a well assorted survival kit from your outdoor shop still doesn't make you a survivor.
A survival situation will most likely put you under a lot of pressure, you have to overcome some or all of the following stresses:
-fear and anxiety -pain, illness and injury -cold and/or heat -thirst, hunger and fatigue -sleep deprivation -boredom -loneliness and isolation
Can you cope? You have to.
You need the will to live. Meaning to never give in, regardless of the situation. It is the most important. Without it, all knowledge and kit is useless. Some people are born with this will, others have to acquire it. Some have a stronger will than others. But everybody can improve.
There are stories about unbelievable situations people went through - because they had a very strong will to live. People can cope with an incredible amount of stresses. But in order to do that, you must have the will to.

G'Kar: I find I'm actually looking forward to seeing the universe with you alongside, Lyta. Perhaps we'll find something extraordinary. Perhaps something extraordinary will find us. Either way, it's going to be quite an adventure.
Lyta: I smell another book coming.
G'Kar: What a wonderful idea.
